Hot New Hotels: Rosewood San Miguel de Allende Opens in 2011

December 9, 2010| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Rosewood San Miguel de AllendeIt's said that once you first set eyes on San Miguel de Allende-- a tangle of colorful colonial villas, cobblestone lanes and church spires that comprise the oldest town in central Mexico-- you can't leave. The community of ex-pats and artists who've settled in this historic town will certainly agree. Nestled in the mountains north of Mexico City, San Miguel was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. And now we've learned that Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is coming to town. In fact, the brand's newest luxury hotel will be located in the UNESCO listed historic district. The colonial-style hotel will be "crafted by local artisans with the look and feel of Old San Miguel... capture the historical essence of Mexico's most beloved city." What we love: tequila tastings, cooking classes, the Rosebuds kids program, and the Sense Spa, with treatments highlighting indigenous elements (like the nearby thermal waters and locally grown lavender). This will certainly be a hotel to watch in 2011. The current opening date is set for February 1, 2011.
