Vermont’s Stately Equinox Gets Revamped

December 30, 2008| By:Mackenzie Allison

The Equinox, VermontAmerican history buffs can find warm New England respite at The Equinox in Manchester Village, VT. We hear that the historic property (its Great Room is shown here) has wrapped up a $20 million restoration by the in-demand designer Geoffrey Bradfield throughout its four unique buildings. Now, guestrooms feature hand-carved wardrobes; marble vanities; floor-length draperies, cozy leather armchairs and a color palette of dark brown, beige and slate blue.

History Lesson: The property has hosted American presidents Taft, Grant, Harrison and Teddy Roosevelt. The Equinox's other accommodations also have great backstory. The Orvis Inn is the former home of Orvis founder Charles Orvis, while 1811 House was once the summer home of Abraham Lincoln's granddaughter.

Foodies can enjoy recent additions such as the Chop House, which serves up mouth-watering steaks. Remember to save time for a nightcap at The Marsh Tavern, a watering hole of presidents since 1796.
