Adirondack Autumn at Whiteface Lodge, Lake Placid

September 10, 2007| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Whiteface Lodge Escape to the quaint village of Lake Placid, New York and enjoy the rustic sophistication of The Whiteface Lodge, the modern embodiment of the refined Adirondack Great Camps of old. The fall season is enchanting, with canoeing and kayaking on Lake Placid, nature hikes, horseback riding and fishing on The Lodge's pond. Through Columbus Day weekend, the Canoe Club will remain open, offering cruises on the new speed boat, pontoon boat or Hacker Craft. The AAA Four Diamond resort has recently unveiled a luxurious new spa, which blends the beauty of the Adirondacks with classic Zen details. Innovative treatments include the Restful Jasmine Exfoliant and the Whiteface Peak Facial, infused with indigenous ingredients. More exciting news: The Whiteface Lodge has resurrected the beloved Lake Placid icon, Steak & Stinger restaurant, originally opened in 1963 by Red Lafountaine. A long time favorite in the region, the steakhouse preserves a bit of Lake Placid history. Expect to find classic dishes by original owner LaFountaine (who acts as consulting chef), signature outsized cocktails, and a complimentary kids' menu with the first seating each evening.
