Hot New Hotels: The St. Regis Princeville Resort Opens After a Big Makeover

October 2, 2009| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

The St. Regis Princeville ResortBack in 2007, we reported on the overhaul of the famous Princeville Resort on the quiet island of Kaua'i. Starwood Hotels and Resorts saved the legendary hotel from fading glory, injecting millions into its resurrection, adding a restaurant (the Kaua'i Grill) by celebrity chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and introducing bespoke St. Regis services (like butlers). Featuring a dramatic lobby with a cascading chandelier comprised of over 4,000 pieces of Murano glass, the 252-room St. Regis Princeville Resort was redesigned by hotel design firm WATG and local Hawaiian architecture firm Group 70. Just opened yesterday, the resort has a killer setting on the lush Napali Coast, an area nicknamed "City of the Prince" after a royal visit by Hawai‘i’s Prince Albert, son of King Kamehameha IV in 1860. Facilities include the 10,000-square foot Halele'a Spa, a luxurious space where guests are spoiled with customized wellness treatments, an infinity pool overlooking Hanalei Bay, and Princeville's two top 18-hole golf courses, including the championship Makai course which is currently being renovated for a winter 2010 completion.
