What’s Hot in New York: The Smyth in TriBeCa, The Latest from Thompson Hotels

May 19, 2009| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Smyth- A Thompson Hotel

When Thompson Hotels opened the Smyth in March in the vibrant TriBeCa neighborhood, the boutique hotel quickly became the talk of the town. The folks behind the famed Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel scored another slam dunk with this hip urban resort, filled with thoughtful amenities (Kiehl's bath products, Frette robes, Sferra linens, and gourmet snacks in-room from Dean & Deluca and Zabar's). Sexy and sleek, the hotel was "conceptually named for the anonymity of Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and seeks to "provide a feeling of refuge; a comfortable and intimate destination."

Custom-designed for its TriBeCa neighborhood, the Smyth is housed in a new building with massive windows on West Broadway and Chambers Street. The lobby was designed by Yabu Pushelberg as a call-back to a London gentlemen's club; impressive contemporary art adorns the walls and the staff sport uniforms by Helmut Lang.
