Top Jobs: General Manager of New York’s Trump International Hotel and Tower

She was the youngest woman to be appointed GM of a NYC luxury hotel when she earned the post in 2007 at the Trump International Hotel and Tower, after working there since 1996. Worldwide, there are only a few female GMs at top hotels, so hat's off to Suzie Mills, who's done a stellar job in Manhattan. Crain's New York Business just featured Mills in an article naming her as one of NY's rising stars under 40:

Growing up at her parents' country inn in Wales, Suzie Mills became enamored of the hotel business. She helped her stepfather, an accomplished chef, in the kitchen; she earned pocket money serving tables at the inn's restaurant. At just 17, Ms. Mills headed to London and landed a job as a cashier at the prestigious Savoy hotel. Late one night, Frank Sinatra performed an impromptu piano concert for her in the lobby. "It was such a surreal moment," recalls Ms. Mills. She was promoted to banquet sales manager by the time she was 22. Her early success convinced the adventurer to head to the Big Apple to make her mark... Within 18 months of taking the helm [at Trump], she accomplished a major goal: winning back its five-star ranking in the Mobil Travel Guide, which the property had held six years earlier. Trump International is one of just five Manhattan properties awarded five stars. Winning over her employees was the first step toward achieving her objective, and little gestures made big impressions. For example, as a manager, Ms. Mills doesn't need to punch a time clock, but she does so. "Nothing is beneath her," says hotel controller Michael Levchuck.
