The Best Spas in New York: Sense at The Carlyle Hotel

January 5, 2009| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Sense Spa at the CarlyleThe Moment (from the New York Times) is over the moon about Sense Spa at The Carlyle which opened in October. There's nothing like today's "stress-inducing climate" to inspire a trip to this heavenly hideaway. The bi-level space is decked out by decorator Mark Zeff with "slate-gray walls, antiqued mirrors, sleek English library furniture and chandeliers." The Moment describes the spa's decadence thusly:

The most striking element is the barrel-vaulted stairwell, lined in platinum mosaic tiles, leading down to the five treatment rooms. ("Don't ask how much they cost," someone muttered. "You'll shoot yourself.") If this is indeed the new Depression, you'll at least feel like Carole Lombard; all that's missing is a bias-cut robe and maribou slippers.

The space may be gorgeous, but the treatments are truly luxurious, says The Moment, incorporating products from Sisley, one of the world's most expensive beauty brands.
