August 24, 2010| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Fairmont Hotel DallasYou don't have to be an art aficionado to appreciate a neat offering from The Fairmont Dallas, the elegant hotel in the Dallas Arts District that "combines luxury and that special Texas flair." The Ross Akard Gallery recently opened on the lobby level of the hotel, only fitting for the hotel's setting in the heart of the largest contiguous urban arts district in the nation. To celebrate, The Fairmont is inviting guests for a weekend of art and culture. With "The Art of Buying Art" package you'll enjoy a one-hour private session on how to buy local art in your community, taught by art veteran and gallery owner Bryan Embry. Next up: a walking tour of the Arts District led by a City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs representative, where you will see Dallas public art created by local and regional artists to enliven parks, libraries, fire stations, recreational centers. Finish off the day with an art-inspired dinner menu with wine pairings, acollaborative creation by Bryan Embry and the Pyramid Restaurant & Bar culinary team. When you check-out, you'll receive a beautiful coffee-table book donated by Nasher Sculpture Center. This one-night package is available through December 30, 2010, subject to availability, and starts from $389 per night. Must be booked at least seven days in advance to guarantee the local art session with Embry and the guided walking tour.
