Talk of the Town: The Chatwal New York is Now Open

August 17, 2010| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

The Chatwal New YorkAfter much anticipation, The Chatwal New York opened its doors last week, the first from hotel entrepreneur Sant Singh Chatwal's new brand. The hotel's goal? To revive the elegance of old New York City and "Gotham's bygone glamor." The official website states its case boldly: "Once home to the famous Lambs Club, this landmark Stanford White-designed building is a star reborn. Fusing Art Deco allure with the luxury of today, we've reinterpreted 1930's New York City for the modern age. Here, gentility is alive and well and smashing Art Deco style is still in vogue. A dramatically re-envisioned "baby grand" hotel, The Chatwal has emerged as the Great White Way's newest leading light. Master architect Thierry Despont has beautifully restored and modernized this iconic midtown Manhattan address, ensuring no detail has been overlooked and no luxury spared. Our guestrooms and suites are themselves works of art, capturing the romance of the past while looking to the future." Equally as exciting: the hotel's Lambs Club Restaurant, "a first-time collaboration for top culinary and cocktailing virtuosos Geoffrey Zakarian, Margaret Zakarian, David Rabin, Will Regan and Jeffrey Jah."
