St. Petersburg, Florida: Top Warm-Weather Domestic Escapes

February 22, 2010| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Don CeSar Beach ResortSunday's Washington Post Travel section picked some domestic warm-weather destinations for Washingtonians desperate to flee the 55 inches of snow that have caused chaos in the nation's capital. To quote: "We now despise the color white. We are sick of snow days. If the snow, snow, won't go away -- then we will." In their round-up of destinations not typically found on the snowbird route, The Post verified historical data from the National Weather Service to guarantee warm temps. On the list? St. Petersburg, Florida, because "it always feels summery" in the Sunshine City. Recreational activities abound-- from biking the 47-mile Pinellas Trail to sport-fishing to beach-lounging on some 35 miles of white sandy bliss. Where to stay? The Don CeSar Beach Resort, of course. Check into St. Pete's fantastical pink palace on the sand and you can score some food & beverage credits, to boot. (The longer you stay, the more credits you'll earn.) [Map]
