Santa Fe Turns 400: Will the King of Spain Check Into Encantado, The New Luxury Resort?

April 10, 2009| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Encantado, An Auberge Resort

Talk about a milestone birthday. Santa Fe is celebrating its 400th year, and even the king of Spain is joining the fiesta-- starting on Labor Day. As the Southwestern city was founded in 1609 by Spanish missionaries, it can claim the title of second oldest city in the U.S. of A. Now the media is abuzz about where King Juan Carlos of Spain will lodge during the festivities. And Encantado, the new luxury offering from Auberge Resorts, is looking like the likely candidate. Set on 57 acres bordering the Santa Fe National Forest against the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Encantado features 65 adobe-style casitas decorated in a Santa-Fe style with original artwork, indoor wood-burning fireplaces, and private outdoor terraces. The spacious bathrooms have heated floors and deep soaking tubs with separate showers. In this gorgeous oasis, guests revel in the sweeping mountain views not far from the cultural hub of Santa Fe. Designed to "tap into the mystic energies for which the New Mexico desert is famous," Encantado is getting acclaim for its luxurious spa.
