Pittsburgh Welcomes New Fairmont Hotel

March 30, 2010| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Fairmont PittsburghThe Fairmont Pittsburgh opened its doors yesterday, bringing to the city the luxe brand's commitment to the environment. Developed according to sustainable design guidelines, the Fairmont is banking on LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. In a nod to the hotel's central setting in "Steel City," the building was designed in glass and steel and showcases artwork from local artists on displays throughout the hotel. The 185 comfortable guest rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows for taking in the views of PNC Park, the restored downtown and the Pittsburgh skyline. There's a fully-equipped health club and sleek bar called Andys, too. To quote HotelChatter:

Pittbsurgh may seem like a surprising choice for the high-end Fairmont brand, but the hotel’s general manager tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that there has been a “pent-up demand for a different option and a luxury option” when it comes to the city’s accommodations. Sharing a building with PNC bank, condo owners, and a law firm, the Fairmont hopes to serve the Fortune 500 and biomedical crowd now buzzing about Pittsburgh.
