Opening in October 2009: Amangiri Resort, Utah

August 25, 2009| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Amangiri, Amanresorts

The dramatic canyons, spires, and limestone plateaus of southern Utah are the setting for the latest hotel from Amanresorts. October 2009 will see the opening of the much anticipated Amangiri, the second U.S. property for the Singapore-based hotel group. The location for the 34-room lodge is picture-perfect, not far from Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument in Utah's canyon country. As National Geographic Adventure points out, you can "hike the surrounding canyons with naturalist Mike Friedman, kayak Lake Powell, or detour to the Vermillion Cliffs." The resort itself is situated on 600 acres of spectacular desert scenery, with sweeping views over the desert. True to Amanresorts' design philosophy, the resort's architecture blends into the surrounding landscape with natural hues and materials. There are also residential villas (pictured), priced from $7 million. What we're most excited about? The sumptuous spa with truly extensive facilities (think water pavilion for Hydrotherapy treatments, watsu pools, and flotation pavilion).
