It’s Here: Steve Wynn’s $2.3 Billion Encore Resort Opens in Las Vegas

December 23, 2008| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Encore Wynn Las VegasDespite the unseasonably cold temps in Vegas, the crowds flocked last night for the opening of Steve Wynn's swanky new casino-resort, aptly called Encore. Despite the economic downturn, Wynn took a gamble and it looks like it's paying off. He's lowered room rates in an unprecedented way for both Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, driving up capacity, shooting for "as close to 95 percent as possible." (Note: Encore has a mere 2,034 luxury suites.) Now is the time to experience a truly opulent destination for pennies-- try $159 a night. Here's what's in store:

Natural light flows onto the 72,000-square-foot casino floor from a large glass-covered atrium and windows overlooking the pool. One restaurant's wall is decorated with a large Asian dragon made from 90,000 Swarovski crystals, while another displays Frank Sinatra's 1953 Oscar at its entrance. The nightclub, XS, opens with large glass doors to an outdoor pool with its own bar, blackjack tables and cabanas.
