Cheeca Lodge in the Florida Keys Will Re-open on December 15

September 30, 2009| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Cheeca LodgeAfter a devastating fire last New Year's Eve, the legendary Cheeca Lodge was forced to close its doors for extensive repairs. But now things are looking up for the "Queen of the Florida Keys." A new Main Lodge has been built and the oceanfront resort is set to re-open on December 15, 2009, just in time for the holidays. Situated in Islamorada, the "Sportfishing Capital of the World," between Everglades National park and North America's only coral barrier reef, Cheeca Lodge & Spa has long been an exclusive destination for folks looking for a taste of the tropics in the continental U.S. Constructed with its original porte-cochere entrance, the main lodge was rebuilt according to LEED specifications set forth by the U.S. Green Building Council. What's more-- the main lodge has 62 Premier Oceanfront and Island View Suites which are among the largest guest rooms in the Florida Keys. Boasting balconies, open-air round tubs for two, and floor-to-ceiling glass walls opening to panoramic ocean or island views, these suites could be the most luxurious digs in the Keys as well.
