Buzz: The Standard, New York Opens in Chelsea/Meatpacking District, Offers Special Preview Package

December 11, 2008| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

The Standard, New YorkThere's been lots of hype surrounding hotelier Andre Balaz's brand-new 18-storey hotel straddling the High Line, the new park in Chelsea created out of a former elevated railway that stretches 22 blocks. As quoted in Conde Nast Traveler, the Standard, New York "fuses New York's industrial past and its artsy present." Indeed, Balazs was one of the champions who fought to convert the High Line into a public park. (You'll find entrances to the park on 14th, 17th, and Gansevoort Streets.) The hotel definitely raises the standard (just check out the live images on the official website). Opening this week, The Standard has a special preview offer for stays through February 9, 2009. Keep in mind that the restaurant won't be open yet, but you'll still get a great deal, with rates starting at $195 including a continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and 24-hour concierge services.
