Destination Spotlight: Tokyo

May 13, 2019| By:Rachael Weir, Five Star Alliance

Hosting the 2020 Olympic Games, Tokyo is a city of contrasts. From Zen-like gardens to Shiodome's skyscraper jungle, travelers to the city can explore an array of styles and destinations within the city's' eclectic neighborhoods.

For those seeking to get in touch with nature and culture, Ueno Park is one of the city's largest parks, and the destination for springtime cherry trees. Within the park, visitors will find the Tokyo National Museum, National Museum of Western Art, National Museum of Nature and Science, and the Shitamachi Museum with a bird sanctuary. There's also the Toshogu Shrine built in 1651, as well as the Kiyomizu Kannon-do Temple.

Consumerism plays a prominent role within Tokyo, making it a hot spot for shopping. From the hip shops on Takeshita Street in Harajuku to designer boutiques on the ultramodern Omotesando Avenue, the city offers shopping destinations for all styles and personalities.  For a local experience, visit Tsukiji Fish Market to see local fish in the morning, or enjoy fresh sushi.
