An exclusive retreat awaits you overlooking beautiful lake Wanaka. Whare Kea Lodge is a private luxury lodge nestled amongst the mountains of New Zealand’s spectacular Southern Alps. Supremely peaceful, Whare Kea Lodge is situated on 70 acres of private farmland with direct access to Lake Wanaka.
Whare Kea (pronounced far-eh-kee-ah) means ‘house of the Kea’ in the language of New Zealand’s indigenous Maori. The Kea, the world’s only alpine parrot, lives all year round above the snowline in the surrounding mountains.

Location Summary
Whare Kea Lodge is located on 70 acres of private farmland, on the western shore of Lake Wanaka.
Directions to Hotel
If driving into Wanaka via State Highway 8 follow the main road into the township, you are on Ardmore Street. Continue through the township proceeding along the lakefront (the lake should be on your right hand side). Continue straight ahead you will pass a sign on your left for the Mt Aspiring National Park, Treble Cone and Glendhu Bay. You are now on Mt Aspiring Road. If you are travelling via the Crown Range / Cardrona Valley Road highway 89, proceed to the lakefront. Turn left to follow the sign indicating Mt Aspiring National Park. You are now on Mt Aspiring Road. Mt Aspiring Road will take you through an avenue of tall trees, you will then go up a rise, continue on past the Top 10 Holiday Park. Proceed on this road past the Rippon Vineyard sign, and past Barn Pinch Farm (we are 2km from Rippon Vineyard). Continue until you reach, on your right hand side, a stone walled entranceway with our Whare Kea Lodge sign attached. Turn into the tree lined driveway. Please note there may be livestock grazing. You will find the Lodge located at the end of the private driveway.

if golf is your passion, the nearby township of Wanaka boasts a picturesque 18 hole golf course overlooking both the lake and the mountains while Queenstown offers another three excellent golf courses with outstanding views.
Skiing Snow
Whare Kea’s chalet, at 1750 metres above sea level on the slopes of Dragonfly Peak, makes an ideal base for heliskiing and ski touring. The surrounding Southern Alps offer unspoiled powder, boasting 400 runs over 200 peaks. Wanaka is home to the Snow Farm - New Zealand's premier cross-country ski field. Cardrona Alpine Resort hosts 345 hectares of skiing terrain. Treble Cone boasts 550 hectares of skiable terrain, the largest in the South Island.
