Note Bene
Kaikoura is the albatross capital of the world with up to 14 different species visiting the area throughout the year. Also, while you are in Kaikoura go whale watching....by airplane! It's the best way to view whales and mountains while in New Zealand. In a typical 30 minute flight you will see the majestic Sperm Whale preparing for his next dive and up to 500 Dusky Dolphins playfully swimming. Occasional sightings include Southern Right, Humpback, Fin, Sei, Brydes, Pilot, Southern Bottlenose and Blue Whales.
Fine Dining On Site
The area in which the Lodge is located was designated on the first European maps of the district as “Kai Whare”, the Maori term for “house of food”. Today the dining room at the Lodge, with its relaxed and warm atmosphere, is at the heart of the Hapuku Lodge experience. The Chef manages all matters relating to the food that is served, from the Lodge’s gardens, in which they grow a good deal of the vegetables and herbs used in the kitchen, the gathering of provisions from local gardeners and producers, sourcing the best meat and fish either directly from the farm or fisherman, the running of the kitchen, the creation of the seasonal menus and the service.
Fitness Center
For guests who like to stay active during their travels, a fitness pavilion has been created and stocked with a fantastic selection of free weights, a treadmill, an exercise bicycle, a pull-up bar, a Swiss ball & towels. The fitness pavilion is air-conditioned with a TV and toilet facilities.

A sauna and a solar-heated outdoor lap pool.
Spa Facility
Kawakawa Studio Spa.
Beach
the Kaikoura coast and famed Mangamaunu Bay only a kilometre to the east.

Golfing
Kaikoura Golf Club is nearby. Kaikoura's golf course is nestled between the magnificent vista of the Seaward Kaikoura Mountains and the ocean waters of the Pacific Ocean. Located within five minutes’ drive of the Kaikoura Township on State Highway 1 this wonderful 18-hole golf course offers something for every golfer, from beginner to low handicapper. A round of golf, while you take in the spectacular views and walk the irrigated fairways of the Kaikoura Golf Course is the ultimate way to wind down after an exciting day of marine mammal adventures.
Skiing Snow
Mount Lyford is 60 km from Kaikoura, which will take approximately 1 hours drive from Hapuku Lodge and Treehouses. At the Mount Lyford ranges, you can look forward to 20 kilometers of slopes.
Windsurfing
SURFING: Mangamaunu, situated just down the road from Hapuku Lodge, is a top-rated, right-hand point break with a stone/boulder beach. The wave can peel off for several hundred meters giving an incredible ride. There are three main hollow/fast sections, known as Outsides-Middles-Insides, with fatter sections found in between each. Mangamaunu is best with a bit of size, from 2-6ft. When it gets bigger, a rip can form, sucking out around the point, pulling you out of the line-up. Best for intermediate to expect riders. Mangamaunu can get very crowded when it's on, so know your rules and don't drop in on others. After a long ride, it may be better to walk back around to the point to join the line-up again.
