Charleston Grill's General Manager, Mickey Bakst, Wins 2011 Neighbor Restaurant Award

Charleston Place HotelNeed a little Monday inspiration? Check out this YouTube video. The General Manager of Charleston Grill, the fabulous restaurant at Charleston Place Hotel, recently won the 2011 Restaurant Neighbor Award ("national mid-size business winner") because of his initiative to give back to the local community. When Crisis Ministries, one of Charleston's biggest shelters, had to make budget cuts and close down their food service for one day a week, Mickey Bakst called up his friends at 52 local restaurants and formed a coalition to provide the meals that the shelter needed to provide for the hungry. One day a week, 52 weeks of the year, a different restaurant or catering operation takes over the meal service and feeds some 400 people. Two years later, Mickey and his friends have served tens of thousands of meals with "Feed the Need"-- a program which Mickey feels could be easily replicated in every city across America.
