Enjoy a Writer's Weekend and Maple Bourbon Dinner at The Omni Homestead

February 20, 2015| By:Five Star Alliance

The Omni Homestead Nestled amidst the splendor of Virginia's Allegheny Mountain lies The Omni Homestead Resort, one of Virginia's premier mountain resorts.  Minutes from the front steps of The Omni Homestead lies the neighboring county of Highland, best known as Virginia's "Little Switzerland." Highland County represents one of the last unspoiled rural communities in the Alleghenies. When spring temperatures arrive in mid-March, residents celebrate the "opening of the trees" at the Highland County Maple Festival, dedicated to the maple syrup farming process. For two weekends local farmers open their homes to visitors as "sugar camps" where they reveal the processes of tree tapping, sap collection, and syrup making. This year the festival will be held March 14-15 and 21-22.

Inspired by the Maple Festival, the resort's culinary team has created an intimate dining event featuring maple-inspired dishes paired with bourbon cocktails. There were also be lectures courtesy of distiller Buffalo Trace. The dinner, held on March 21, also coincides with the resort's inagural Writer's Weekend, where events will include writer presentations as well as a book sale and signing. Sample dishes include maple sugar dusted Diver Scallop, crispy maple brussels sprouts, New York Strip Steak au poivre with a bourbon peppercorn sauce, and maple bourbon ice cream.
