What’s On: Literary Saturdays at the Hotel Lutetia in Paris

September 15, 2009| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Hotel Lutetia ParisHotel Lutetia-- a magnet for writers, intellectuals, and artists in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés-- has started up its popular Saturday events for the fall. Les Samedis littéraires, or Saturday literary salons, will feature lectures and courses, with a specific event devoted to young readers. The Art Deco hotel has embodied the quartier's spirit since its opening in 1910. The hotel's Brasserie attracts a lively crowd of artists and politicos, while the bar is a great venue for live jazz (and even got a shout-out within the lyrics of Serge Gainsbourg). You'll find a welcoming statue of Gustave Eiffel in the lobby, plus plenty of canvases by resident artist Thierry Bisch, who has produced some 80 works as resident artist of the hotel since 2001. Talk about a Parisian ambience.
