Talk of the Town: The Peninsula Hotel Will Open in Shanghai in Late 2009

December 29, 2008| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

The Peninsula Hotel Shanghai

Since 1928, The Peninsula Hotels have symbolized glamor and exceptional service worldwide, starting with the flagship in Hong Kong. Now the luxury hotel chain will be opening its ninth property in Shanghai facing the historic Bund, a UNESCO-designated Modern Heritage Site, in late 2009 (in time for the Shanghai World Expo in 2010). With spectacular views of the Huangpu River, Pudong, and the gardens of the former British Consulate next door, The Peninsula Shanghai will feature 15 storeys encompassing 235 guestrooms and suites. Styled with a classic architectural design and Art Deco interiors, the hotel will have five restaurants (including a rooftop resto with inspiring views), The Peninsula Spa by ESPA, shopping arcade, and Rolls-Royce car service for guests. The hotel's opening marks the return to Shanghai of Asia's oldest hotel company, as The Peninsula's parent company (The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited) has origins in the city.
