New in London: “150 at The May Fair” Serves Champagne Magnums & Canapés

January 24, 2011| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

The May FairLondon's May Fair Hotel kicked off 2011 in a big way: by inaugurating a swanky new VIP bar called "150 at The May Fair." What's the name about, you ask? 150 refers to the measurement of the featured menu item, the Champagne magnum (150 cl). Launched with Moët Hennessey UK, the bar specializes in pairing vintage Champagnes and canapés by celebrity chef Silvena Rowe. The idea: guests can host a private Champagne party, complete with their own mixologist for the night, with magnums that are personalized with the guest's name in Swarovski crystals. For the ultimate indulgence, order the "Dom Pérignon Rose 1998 Experience," priced at £4,400 (approx. $6,800), which is for 12 guests and features four magnums of Dom Pérignon Vintage Rose 1998 paired with four canapés for each guest: seared diver-caught scallops and sevruga caviar remoulade; crispy spiced jumbo prawns with avocado and tahini; West Mersea native oysters with sevruga caviar and szechaun button and pomegranate glazed foie gras.
