Cruise the Canals of Bruges on a Bike: Special from Kempinski Hotel Dukes’ Palace

May 19, 2010| By:Mary Winston Nicklin

Kempinski Hotel Dukes' PalaceWith the euro continuing its steady decline against the dollar, it's looking like Europe is the place to be this summer. Consider a jaunt to the fairytale city of Bruges, the "Venice of the North" not far from Brussels. As if the medieval buildings, cobblestoned streets, and canals weren't a big enough lure... The Kempinski Hotel Dukes' Palace is a destination in itself. Opened in 2008 in the historic city center, the five-star hotel is housed in the restored Prinsenhof, built in the 15th century on the occasion of the wedding between Philip the Good and Isabelle of Portugal. To quote the hotel: "The former royal residence is a unique portal to the past... Each room represents an imaginary voyage to the elite life of Dukes' and Duchesses." The 93 guest rooms have retained many original historic features (like original frescoes), and six of the 22 suites are actually heritage-listed.

Kempinski Hotel Dukes' PalaceThis summer the hotel is offering guests the chance to explore Bruges by bike. Priced from 304 euros per night, the "Discover Bruges by Bike" package includes accommodations in a Superior room, breakfast buffet for two, one bike per person for the day, a 3-course dinner (excluding beverages) for two, and spa entrance. Valid until September 30, 2010, subject to availability.
