As reported by the AP, the city has launched a nighttime tour to the Colosseum and opened a slew of ancient monuments usually closed to the public-- including the House of Livia (associated with the wife of Rome's first emperor, Augustus), the House of Griffins (the oldest house discovered on Palatine Hill), and the recently-restored Temple of Romulus (never before open to visitors). These new initiatives will run through September 30, 2009. Check into the St. George Roma and you'll enjoy an enviable location near the city's most important monuments on historic Via Giulia, dating from the 15th century.
