San Domenico Palace Hotel

Built on the original structures of a former Dominican monastery of the 15th century, San Domenico Palace was transformed into a hotel in 1896 by Giovanni Rosso, Prince of Cerami, a descendant of Damiano Rosso, a Catanian nobleman of the princely family Rosso di Altavilla who built and then donated the monastery to the friars when he himself embraced the monastic life. A luxury hotel within ancient walls where much recalls monastic life creates a startling contrast, but it is all the more fascinating for it. From the beginning, San Domenico has attracted poets, writers, movie stars, royal families and Heads of State, all of whom have filled the ancient pages of the jealously guarded Golden Book with their dedications.
