Experience the rich history of Fort Baker, a former U.S. Army post, with a stay in one of our impeccably restored historic guestrooms. These historic buildings – formerly officers' residences – are located on expansive green space encircling the parade ground with hillside or San Francisco skyline views.

Spacious two-bedroom, family-friendly suites offer the perfect living space for loved ones to be near. Restored to the highest standards, all feature the finest amenities, windows that open, cozy sitting areas and organic bedding. Many guest rooms and suites are dog friendly.

From their hillside perch above historic Fort Baker, our Contemporary hotel rooms and guest suites combine environmental sensitivity with modern style. Many feature sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. Housed in two-story buildings constructed to the highest standards of green architecture, each accommodation has a private entrance, cozy gas fireplace, panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, radiant heat floor, bamboo furnishings, and some have an individual patio or deck. Location Summary
Cavallo Point Lodge is situated within Fort Baker, part of The Golden Gate National Parks. Originally inhabited by the coastal Miwok tribes, Horseshoe Cove became home to Fort Baker long before there was a Golden Gate Bridge. In 1866, the U.S. Army acquired the site for a military base to fortify the north side of the Golden Gate. The 24 buildings around the 10-acre parade ground at Fort Baker took shape between 1901 and 1915. The Army post remained active through World War II.

Directions to Hotel
There is easy access from Cavallo Point to San Francisco by car, bus and ferry. All three Bay Area airports are just a short drive away: San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is 40-50 minutes; OAK, Oakland International Airport (OAK) is 50 minutes; and San Jose International Airport (SJC) is 70 minutes.

For guests arriving at SFO who prefer not to rent a car, the Marin Airporter bus is available from SFO to Sausalito. Cavallo Point provides pick up from the bus stop. When the bus begins to cross the Golden Gate Bridge, call our Front Desk so that our shuttle can be ready for pick up at the Marin Airporter stop. Plan to depart the Marin Airporter at Spencer Avenue. This is the exit after the Golden Gate Bridge and through a tunnel. The first exit after the tunnel is Spencer Avenue. This service is also available upon return to SFO.

Filled with natural light and top-of-the line culinary equipment, the Cavallo Point Cooking School is an intimate place to taste, create and explore. An ever-changing roster of cooking classes and programs is flavored by the bounty of the organic offerings from the San Francisco Bay Area. All classes are led with a keen eye toward seasonality, sustainability and stewardship.
