Pestana Palacio do Freixo
The adaptation of the Pestana Palacio do Freixo, housed in a palace which has been classified as a National Monument since 1910, was by architect David Sinclair and decorated by architect James Mitchell. The building is located on the banks of the Douro River, named after the famous Wine Region in Portugal, which dates back to Roman times. In the main building of the Pousada - the old Palace - you can find the restaurant, bar, and social rooms. In the other building, the old Harmony grinding mills, you can find the bedrooms, some of which hold a magnificent view over the river.
Pestana Palacio do Freixo has a total of 87 rooms: 30 standard rooms, 46 superior rooms with a river/pool view, 10 suites, and one special suite with a river view. There is a possibility of adjoining rooms. The suites of the Freixo Palace are among the most modern of the group and have the advantage of a stunning view over the River Douro. Besides the luxurious and sophisticated lounge, the suite has two large single beds and a Hi-fi with alarm clock and MP3 connection.
