Note: The Balsams is currently closed for long term renovations after being purchased by new owners. Plans call for the renovation of the main hotel buildings, and complete redevelopment of the entire resort. Opening dates have not yet been announced.

Wondering what to pack for your New Hampshire traveling? No matter what time of year you plan on visiting The Balsams, the one item you will definitely want to pack is your camera. Located high in New Hampshire's White Mountains and deep in the Great North Woods, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking from sunrise to sunset. With New England travel, photo opportunities abound, from nature shots to wildlife pictures to captured memories with the ones you love.

Directions to Hotel
From New York City & Connecticut: Interstate 95 to New Haven, then north to Interstate 91 to St. Johnsbury, VT, continuing via Route 2 to Lancaster, NH and Route 3 to Colebrook, NH, then east on Route 26 for 11 miles to Dixville Notch (390 miles).

From Boston: North on Interstate 93 past Franconia Notch, NH to exit 35, then Route 3 to Colebrook, NH and east on Route 26 for 11 miles to Dixville Notch (219 miles).

Alternate Route From Boston: Route 95 to Portsmouth, NH, then Route 16 to Route 26, then west on Route 26 for 11 miles to Dixville Notch (210 miles).

From Portland: Maine Turnpike north to Exit 63 (formerly Exit 11), onto Route 26 to Dixville Notch (118 miles).

From Montreal: East on Autoroute 10 to Magog, Route 55 south 8 miles to Route 141 to Coaticook, then Route 147 south to Norton, VT, north on Route 114 (eastbound) to Route 3, then south to Colebrook, NH and east on Route 26 for 11 miles to Dixville Notch (152 miles).

From Toronto: Highway 401 to Montreal; follow directions from Montreal (480 miles).

Airport Information: If you fly into Portland, expect about a 2.5 hour drive to The Balsams in good weather (i.e. non-snowy conditions). The entire trip is via two-lane highway, and offers the most scenic route into the resort.

If you fly into Manchester, the trip is typically about 3 hours. Leaving the airport follow the signs for Rte.293 north to connect you to 93 North. Follow Route 93 North until exit 35. Once on Route 3 North, follow until you reach Colebrook. In the center of Colebrook turn right on Route 26, follow for 11 miles. The BALSAMS will appear on your left-hand side. Take the second entrance. Watch out for the Moose!!

Fine Dining On Site
From the elegance and true ambiance of the Grand Dining Room to more casual offerings such as The Tavern or The Panorama Grille, The BALSAMS has an abundance of choices to satisfy every guest.
Tennis Courts On Site
The complex consists of three red-clay and three Plexicushion hard courts, and a full-service pro shop with rackets, tennis shoes, logo apparel and accessories.
Boating
Beautiful Lake Gloriette is available for canoeing, kayaking and fly-fishing.
Golfing
The famous 18-Hole Panorama course, designed by legendary golf architect Donald Ross, is carved into the side of Mount Keazer and offers stunning views across the mountaintops and into New York, Vermont and Canada. Both the Panorama and Executive 9-Hole Coashaukee are demanding courses that are defined by well-manicured greens, rich fairways and incredible panoramic views from every hole.
Skiing Snow
Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating and dog-sledding available in season.
