Amantaka derives its name from the Sanskrit-derived word for ‘peace’, aman, and from Tipitaka, which symbolises the ‘three baskets’ of Buddha’s teachings in Theravada scholastic literature. The resort is located just south of Mount Phousi in the center of the picturesque Luang Prabang peninsula. Within walking distance of the many boutiques, bakeries and restaurants along the main street, Amantaka is also close to the banks of the Mekong River and to Luang Prabang’s fabled night market. This Laos luxury resort provides access to the town’s many historic sites including more than 30 golden-spired temples and the former Royal Palace, a classic example of the town’s unique blend of 19th and 20th century French colonial and Lao architectural traditions.

Luang Prabang, the formal royal capital of Laos, is an enchanting city that is small enough to explore on foot. Amantaka is a ten minute drive from Luang Prabang International Airport, which is serviced by scheduled flights from Bangkok, Hanoi, Chiang Mai, Siem Reap and Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Amantaka is little more than a ten minute drive from Luang Prabang International Airport which is serviced by scheduled flights from the primary international gateways of Bangkok (2 hours), Hanoi, Siem Reap, Chiang Mai and Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Domestic flying time between Vientiane and Luang Prabang is 40 minutes.
