Location Summary
Koh Samui is Thailand’s third largest island, but it remained secluded until recently. Settled about 15 centuries ago by fishermen from the Malay Peninsula and Southern China, the island did not begin appearing on maps of the region until the 17th century. The origins of the name Samui remain mysterious, perhaps an adaption of a Chinese word for "safe haven." Though its white sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and lush jungle interior now draw visitors from the world over, Anantara Koh Samui still captures the island’s essence of privacy and tropical seclusion.
