Excellent hotel. Fantastic service.

Shambala Private Game Reserve is built in traditional Zulu style with streams from the nearby river running through the camp. Within this beautiful setting, guests will have a chance to reflect and gain a true understanding of the connection with the environment. At Shambala Private Game Reserve, the unhurried atmosphere, combined with the natural beauty of the surroundings, creates a romantic backdrop for an idyllic bush retreat.

The Restaurant and Bar at Shambala (Lapa at Zulu Camp) is in a rustic setting under thatch overlooking the river and farther views to the rock cliff. Crocodiles and hippos can be seen as well as a variety of birds. The Dining Room at Nelson Mandela Centre for Reconciliation comfortably seats 14 people and is available to guests staying at the Centre for breakfast lunch and dinner. There is a less formal dining area overlooking the pool and the surrounding bushveld area.

The Shambala Spa is situated in a secluded bushveld clearing near the riverside. The Spa offers all the traditional Spa treatments for relaxing revitalizing and rejuvenating the senses. Views over the river bed and the sounds of flowing water adds to the tranquility of the surroundings.

Game viewing - Visitors to Shambala are treated to unique personal experiences of the bushveld and close up game viewing by qualified experienced game rangers and guides. With the many species of wildlife roaming free on Shambala visitors are not permitted to go on unaccompanied walks for safety reasons. Bush picnics at Shambala are romantic and unforgettable surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African bush with its abundant wildlife and lilting bird calls. Boating
Sundowner cruises offer a leisurely tour on the 30 hectare Douw Steyn Dam, the largest man-made dam in southern Africa. The dam is home to herds of hippos as well as crocodiles and a large and varied indigenous fish population. From the boat deck, sights include various species of antelope and other wildlife that come down to the shores of the dam to drink water as well as bountiful birdlife.
Ecological Tourism
Game drives are included and guests can expect to spot a wide variety of game species, from black and white rhino to elephant, lion, leopard and cheetah, as well as buffalo, giraffe, sable antelope, black impala, tsessebe, nyala, blesbok, waterbuck, klipspringer and Cape mountain zebra, and even spotted hyena, in addition to abundant birdlife.
Fishing - Ocean
The Douw Steyn Dam is the largest man-made lake in southern Africa, extending over 30 hectares, and is home to indigenous fish species as well as hippos and crocodiles. The most likely catch is Largemouth Bass. The chef will be on hand to help prepare your catch.
