Casa da Calcada

Situated midway between Porto and the Douro Valley, Casa da Calcada is a luxury hotel set within a 16th century palace with golden baroque interiors in the heart of Amarante. Close to the Tamega, Douro, and Mino rivers, the Relais & Chateaux hotel produces Vinho Verde wines, and offers on-site tours of the region's best wine quintas to help guests discern the differences between Tawny, Ruby, White or Vintage Ports.

Guest rooms and suites in the historic landmark building feature romantic styling inspired by baroque design with writing desks, upholstered headboards, plush armchairs, and satellite TVs. There are marble bathrooms with bathrobes, dressing areas with mirrors, and soundproofing. Plus, upgraded rooms overlook the Tamega River and historic center of Amarante.

The Largo do Paço Restaurant was awarded a Michelin star, and offers a complete gastronomic experience with regional and Mediterranean chef-prepared cuisine, along with tasting menu options.

Set amidst gardens, the hotel has two swimming pools—one for children and one for adults. Open from June to September, there are lounge chairs, umbrellas, and a pool bar serving light meals and refreshments.
