This 1400-square foot suite offers stunning views of Lake Michigan and its design is sleek and refreshingly simple. The bedroom, open living room, kitchenette, and two bathrooms are spacious and maximize the light and dramatic views of Chicago’s expansive lakefront. Anthony Bourdain Approved Hotels

November 28, 2012
By: Oksana Balytsky

Anthony Bourdain’s show The Layover is back for another season, and we can’t wait to see what interpretation about a place, its people, and the food he can come up with between his flights. We’re particularly interested in the show since he’ll be featuring the hotels at which he crashes during his layovers, and we assume Mr. Bourdain wouldn’t catch some zzz’s at any old motel.

Just as we expected, Anthony Bourdain proves to stay in style with the first episode featuring the Four Seasons Chicago. According to Anthony Bourdain, “this hotel is swank as all get out. The industry gold standard in big ass, comfortable beds.” We would have to agree with you there, Anthony, and also give our stamp of approval to the Four Seasons Chicago for their luxurious beds, superb downtown location, and the Martini Man with his traveling cart, ready to whip you up any drink in the comfort of your own room.

The menu features a wedge salad with candied pecans, Tomme de Nena cheese, a basket of all-you-can-eat buttermilk fried chicken, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, and gravy and biscuits, all served family style. The dessert is Pastry Chef Scott Gerken’s peach pie with blueberry ice cream. (Can you say YUM?) By: Oksana Balytsky

We at Five Star Alliance are all about the best and most luxurious hotels. We certainly keep up with the happenings in the luxury travel world and take pride in bringing our clients the latest luxury travel news. Keep up with our blog series where we’ll be featuring luxury hotels opening to stay on top of the trends and make your reservations at the newest hotspots.

Chicago is quickly becoming a thriving hotspot for new hotels to pop up, and it seems like the trend will continue for the foreseeable future. The Chicago Athletic Association will be converted into a 240-room hotel in 2014, and it’s certainly the perfect building for a boutique luxury hotel. The historic building used to serve as a hangout spot for affluent Chicago bachelors in the 1990s. According to the Chicago Tribune, it was a spot where “one could exercise, enjoy a fine meal in a beautiful setting, and then retire to a comfortable room for the evening, all under one roof." Sounds to us like it already has a few of the key qualities of a luxury hotel, and we can’t wait to see how this repurposing develops! Hoping to visit Chicago a bit earlier? Check out the other luxury hotels in the area here!

Keep Your Windows Closed in Chicago to Steer Clear of Spiders!

July 12, 2012
By: Oksana Balytsky

Yes, you read that correctly. The high rise flying spiders’ annual migration takes place in the spring and summer, so Hilton Chicago is requesting that guests do not open their windows during the next few months. According to a memo sent out by Hilton, baby spiders release silk to create balloon-like contraptions which are then used to hitch rides on uplifting air current from the lake. In natural environments, these spiders live on rocks overhanging water, but in the city, these spiders have found their new home in tall buildings and high-rises. The last thing we want is tiny spiders crawling through our window, so be sure to keep those windows closed and that AC blasting to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay! Traveling to Chicago? With 36 luxury hotels, we certainly have you covered!

It's Business Time: The Conrad Best Business Hotel Chicago

July 5, 2012
By: Christopher Roney

There's a very interesting split in the travel industry between business and leisure travelers. And if you're one of the business types, you know well that you're on the road constantly and the things that matter to you, travel convenience, efficiency, and connectivity, are almost the opposite of what a leisure traveler might want. If the word 'secluded' ever appeared in a hotel description, you'd cross it off the list immediately. So I'm here to use some adjectives you might appreciate hearing in describing some of the world's best business hotels. Today? Chicago.

There's a clear desination for business travelers to Chicago, and that's the Magnificent Mile. Right in the heart of the prestigious McGraw-Hill building, the Conrad Chicago gives you easy access to the city's financial district and just about anywhere else you might have a meeting.  A 2,000 sq ft fitness center keeps you in shape while you're on the go, and its business center is naturally open 24 hours with full executive services.  12,000 sq ft of executive meeting space means no matter how many people you're hosting for that important meeting, you'll be sure to have the perfect arrangement, looking as sharp and professional as you would in your own office.  The rooms are high-tech and connected, so you'll never feel out of touch if you don't want to be.  And when you're done for the day you can relax with a soak and massage at their health club and spa or with a drink at the Rendez-Vous Bar and Lounge.  The Conrad Chicago is definitely on our list of best business hotels.
