It's Getting Hot in Here: Conde Nast Hot List 2012
April 25, 2012
By: Christopher Roney
Conde Nast Traveler, purveyor of fine hotel reviews and travel advice, has just released its 2012 edition of the Hot List, a list of hotels that are setting the hotel world aflame with fresh designs and new concepts, or maybe just a solid new look at classic luxury. 41 reporters embedded themselves anonymously in hotels across the globe to review their targets. What results is a list of 121 hotels around the world that are so on fire they should be put on your watch list, just in case they end up burning down.
A couple highlights from the Hot List that caught our eye:
The Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Vancouver was originally opened in 1927 but after an illustrous career that saw the likes of Elvis Presley and Katherine Hepburn grace their front steps, the hotel went dark for a while. Emerging from its cocoon in 2011, the hotel is looking to recreate the legend it forged in the last century.
The Andaz Shanghai brings the contemporary style of the Andaz brand to the heart of China. Its minimalistic design and great spa are the perfect combination for any type of traveler to the Shanghai area. The customizable LED lighting featured in its premium rooms and suites is also incredibly fun.
Keep on the lookout as we take a more in-depth look at a few of our favorites from the Hot List in the days to come.
Thank You, Canada: Thanksgiving at the Wedgewood This Weekend
October 3, 2011
By: Christopher Roney
Ladies and Gentleman, it’s that time of the year again. Fall is upon us and the leaves are turning, and that means just one thing. Turkey Day’s a-comin. And it just may be that you’re the kind of person who thinks that holidays are a time to get away. Well, the Wedgewood Hotel in Vancouver agrees with you, good sir, and they’re prepared to offer you a package deal that will have you giving thanks for more than just the health of your family and the latest football win. And one of the best parts about Thanksgiving is that if you travel for it, you can have it twice. Canadian thanksgiving is conveniently on the second Monday of October – this year the 10th – and that means twice as much turkey. You don’t have to sacrifice any time with your family to enjoy a weekend holiday getaway courtesy of our northern neighbors. Offering up a tryptophan-induced coma for two and 20% off of spa treatments, Thanksgiving stays at the Wedgewood are a surefire way to start the fall in style.

Eco-Friendly Hotels: Four Seasons Vancouver Goes Green
May 16, 2011
By: Mary Winston Nicklin
The Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver was recently awarded the Five Green Key rating for environmental and social stewardship. One of only 30 hotels worldwide to earn this honor, the Four Seasons Vancouver gets serious props for advocating corporate social responsibility. They installed a Sempa Hybrid Heating System to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20-50 percent each month; launched a comprehensive recycling program; installed energy-efficient, LED lights; created a sustainable dining menu at YEW restaurant and bar. Guests can also participate in the Eco-Luxury program and get an in-room recycling bin and daily newspaper delivered in an eco-chic reusable canvas bag. We also dig that the hotel donates food, shampoos, soaps, bedding and linens to local charities.
