This award winning lodge is a designer's delight, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, it is set within magnificent landscaped gardens overlooking beautiful Lake Taupo and the mountains.
Lake Taupo Lodge reflects owners Gary and Shirley Akers love of beauty and quality. The focus is on gracious living and the seven guest suites are luxurious examples of world class accommodation. All are en-suite, are superbly appointed, each with their own balcony or terrace and stunning lake and garden views.
Lake Taupo is one of the New Zealand's finest recreational playgrounds and is reputed as being one of the best trout fishing areas in the world. The sweeping landscapes and exotic geothermal areas provide a wealth of unique activities that capture the imagination of all who come here.
Lake Taupo Lodge's creation was started 30 years ago by Gary and Shirley when they purchased 10 acres of wild bush in Acacia bay overlooking Lake Taupo. Both of them are keen gardeners and Gary has a particular love of wildlife so the native bush formed the perfect haven for his love of birds. From there they split it up into 3 lots retaining the 3 and 1/2 acre lodge site for themselves.
Recommended Rooms
All our suites have private outdoor patio areas with table and chairs where one can listen to the birds and soak up nature's beauty and the magnificent lake and topiary garden views. The three new executive suites "Frank" "Lloyd" and "Wright" have been inspired by the same Frank Lloyd Wright architectural design (hence the original names!).
All the executive suites have a King sized bed or two single beds, telephone, writing table and chairs, fridge, mini bar, tea and coffee facilities, alarm clock, iron and ironing board.
The ensuite bathrooms have under floor heating, luxurious bathrobes, toiletries and hairdryer. Four of the executive suites have large baths as well as walk in showers. The others have large walk in showers.
Fresh flowers, seasonal fruit, milk and homemade cookies are in the room every day along with a selection of teas and coffee.

Beach
Lake Taupo is a large deep lake with an average depth of around 110 metres. With an area of approximately 616 square kilometers the quantity of water it holds is measured in the tens of billions of cubic metres. Such an enormous volume of water takes a long time to warm up and cool down, which means that temperatures in the lake rarely fall below 10 degrees C in the winter or rise above 22 degrees C in the summer.
Boating
There are several boats that cruise the lake on a daily basis (weather and sometimes numbers permitting) for sight-seeing trips. Some offer lunch or a romantic dinner on board.
Fishing - Fly
The first trout were liberated into the waters of Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake in 1887. They were the Tasmanian Brown Trout and the Californian Rainbow Trout. Shore based fishing around Lake Taupo can be very successful at a large number of locations around the lake edge all year round. Lake edge summer stalking with wet, dry and natural flies can yield exceptional results.
Golfing
Choose from the world-renowned Wairakei International Golf Club, Taupo Golf Club, Centennial or Tauhara Golf courses - all within a 15-minute drive from the township of Taupo.
Hiking
There are literally dozens of hikes available including around the lake, along the rivers, native bush and mountain trails. Maps for these hikes are available form the Taupo Information Centre on Tongariro Street.
Horseback Riding
There are several horse-trek companies operating in Taupo. Whether you are an experienced rider, or keen for a gentle walk, they will have just the horse for you. Trek through native bush and pine forest with lake, mountain and township views.
Shopping
The town of Taupo is relaxed and friendly, offering a wide range of restaurants, both outdoor and indoor cafes, art galleries and shops.
Winery Tours
One of the finest wine cellars in New Zealand is Taupo's own 'Scenic Cellars'. The Wishart Winery is less than a 5 minute drive from town.
The Hawkes bay is only a 1.5 hour scenic drive away with stunning wineries and Art Deco architecture.
