Opened in 1923, this impressive stucco-fashioned edifice is Rio's most traditional and luxurious hotel. This landmark was designed by the French architect Joseph Gire who was inspired by two hotels, the Negresco in Nice and the Carlton in Cannes. Since opening the hotel has had only two owners, the Guinle family of Rio de Janeiro and from 1989, Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises.

Highly acclaimed Copacabana Palace is renowned as the most luxurious hotel in Rio. With a long established reputation for exceptional service, it is the first choice for celebrities, royalty, politicians and the business traveller.

Five Star Alliance Client Reviews - Copacabana Palace
Lisa B., Buenos Aires, Argentina. January, 2007
"The Copacabana Palace is an elegant hotel on one of the nicest beaches in Rio de Janeiro. Our room was tastefully decorated with windows that opened and the view was of pool and the beach. The pool was a delightful place to spend the day if you didn't want to be on the beach and if you did want the beach there were chairs, umbrellas, towels and smiling attendants waiting for you. We felt that the staff and service personnel were first class. We would definitely go back again."
Peter, Perth, Australia. February, 2006
"Rio is a great city however staying at the Copacabana will certainly enhance your experience many times over. Everything about this hotel is classic, elegant and first rate. The room, swimming pool, facilities and regular restaurant are just magnificent whilst personnel will do their utmost to ensure that nothing is too much trouble. "
