While we are a pleasant walk or short drive away from Santa Barbara, our boutique hotel is secluded from the street by English sandstone walls and manicured hedges.

From the South (Los Angeles): 101 Northbound. Exit Garden Street. Turn right onto Garden Street. 1st left onto Gutierrez Street. 1st right onto Santa Barbara Street. 12 blocks to Arrellaga Street. Turn left. Simpson House Inn is in the 1st block on the right. Drive through the driveway gates which are set back from the street between tall hedges. From the North (San Francisco): 101 Southbound. Exit Mission Street. Turn left onto Mission Street. 6 blocks to Anacapa Street. Turn right. 4 blocks to Arrellaga Street. Turn left. Simpson House is in the 1st block on the left. Drive through the driveway gates which are set back from the street between tall hedges.

Ennisbrook Nature Preserve is an enchanting 44 acres of oak woodland along San Ysidro Creek. There is a 1 1/2 mile hiking and riding trail over old stone bridges, through groves of wild oaks and around a stand of eucalyptus trees where Monarch butterflies roost.

Miles of trails meander through the hills, forests and stream-filled canyons of Santa Barbara, truly a hiker's paradise. Hikes include Rattlesnake Trail, Cold Springs Trail, Romero Canyon Trail, Beach walks.

It will take you over peaceful country roads, through picturesque farmland dotted with thousands of acres of lush green vineyards. Breathtaking vistas of valleys and mountains are vivid against a background of clear blue skies. The wineries settings range from attractively rustic to architecturally sophisticated. Most tasting rooms welcome visitors year-round and are open daily for sampling and purchasing. Choose from 50 wineries to visit.
Recommended Rooms
In the main house, the Robert and Julia Simpson Room: This spacious rose-colored room has an elaborate Victorian wallpaper treatment in William Morris tradition. It features an antique king bed, comfortable sitting area and private bathroom with an old-fashioned claw foot tub/shower. French doors open onto a large private deck overlooking the gardens. Cottages: The Abbeywood, Greenwich and Plumstead cottages have been crafted to reflect the luxurious elegance. Each one opens onto a private intimate fountain courtyard where you can linger over breakfast. The cottages also feature antique canopied queen featherbeds, loveseats by wood burning fireplaces, and an in-room Jacuzzi tub for luxuriating. Teak hardwood floors complement the Oriental rugs and antique furniture. The Pendle Cottage is an English garden cottage, secluded in the inn's gardens. Features private fountain, sitting room with cozy love seat in front of wood burning fireplace, sunny upstairs loft bedroom with high ceilings and King canopy featherbed, skylights with views to the giant oak and a full kitchen.
