"This is a lovely hotel with a pleasant, Spanish motif. It is centrally located one block from State Street near great shopping and restaurants. We enjoyed the rooftop pool and lounge area, called 'El Cielo,' where we had cocktails while appreciating a great view of Santa Barbara and the ocean. The only drawback was a noisy central AC/heating unit and the inability to adjust the room temperature without opening the window."

From the reception area, an arched entry with a decoratively painted ceiling leads to 31 West, an 80-seat restaurant with its own street side entrance and an adjoining 40-seat bar. In this space, banquettes take on the dome-topped shape that is a familiar pattern in Andalucian design and substantial armchairs that are generously spaced for private conversation flank tables. Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus in the restaurant take on a predominant American slant, drawing from Santa Barbara's fresh seafood, vegetables, produce and specialty foods for bursts of bold flavor.
