Officially opened in 1612 as the Place Royale, the Place des Vosges was constructed on the orders of Henri IV who died before he saw it completed. It quickly attracted high society to the Marais, often visited by Madame de Sevigne, Racine, La Fontaine, and Moliere. After a long period of decline, the Marais has recovered its aristocratic credentials. Nowadays, beneath the arcades of the square, it is a pleasure to browse in the antique shops, visit the art galleries or dine in a good restaurant. In the heart of historic Paris, the Pavillon de la Reine is a delightful pied-a-terre that offers all the comfort of a grand hotel. In this lively area of Paris, the Pavillon de la Reine is an oasis: the flowered courtyard isolates the guest rooms from the outside animation. If your room doesn't overlook the courtyard, then you may contemplate the patio planted of trees and flowers. The owner decorated the Pavillon de la Reine as if it were her own house so that everybody feels at home: wood fire burning in the grand fireplace, elegant carpets covering large flagstones, panelling and beams decorating walls and ceilings. You can also pour yourself a drink at the "honesty bar".
Five Star Alliance Client Reviews - Pavillon de la Reine
Carol, London, United Kingdom. December, 2006
"The hotel was beautifully appointed, in a magical, romantic setting in the Place de Vosges. My room was large and beautifully furnished, with a lovely view across the courtyard. The hotel was very private and quiet and the staff were very polite and helpful."
Sarah, Chicago, IL. August, 2006
"We loved the hotel. It was quiet, and accommodations were terrific. Hotel location is terrific in the Marais. We liked our suite very much."
Kevin, Pawling, NY. March, 2006
"I could live here - it's that comfortable. The staff is attentive, but not at all stuffy. Then there's location, location, location! Right on le Place des Voges in le Marais; great walking and the hotel opens on the square's arcade so even if it's raining you can walk around to a good number of shops, restaurants and other attractions under a roof. The neighborhood bustles with traffic around le Place des Voges, but the hotel is set back just a few steps and is remarkably quiet. Our room looked out on a central courtyard--lots of light & atmosphere. A good size room for Paris. A week in it and we never felt crowded. The breakfast room looked nice, but we generally breakfast in our room. The ladies who deliver soon realized we're not quick risers and would let themselves in, lay out the trays and quietly depart-giggling; very sweet. The library has an 'honor bar' at all hours which was also appreciated when coming in late after dinner and also a place to meet other guests. The concierge staff were particularly helpful. We had e-mailed ahead several requests for dinner reservations and the confirmations were waiting in an envelope in our room. One helped us locate an old friend in Paris and when it turned out she was ill handled sending her flowers."
Dave, Cincinnati, OH. March, 2006
"A small, tradionally European hotel with excellent customer service. Has been one of my favorite Paris hotels for almost 10 years. The location, in Place des Vosges, is perhaps the most beautiful square in Paris. While away from the city noise and bustle, it is convenient by Metro to all of Paris."
