Live like royalty in The Savoy’s new Royal Suite. The top-tier accommodation comprises an open-plan procession of rooms spanning the entire riverside of the hotels fifth floor, designed at bringing new royal standards to today’s living.

When The Savoy, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, first reopened in 2010, a Royal Suite was introduced as the pinnacle of luxury offering a traditional London experience. Now, the updated Royal Suite responds to expectations of a modern luxury traveler, offering a more residential-style accommodation, meeting desires to “live in spaces as if living at home.” Guests of the Royal Suite, which previously include industry heads, world leaders and visiting royalty, can now enjoy an apartment-like space designed to represent luxury in the style of home they would choose to reside in themselves.

Fendi Suites: A Shopper's Dream Come True

By: Five Star Alliance

When visiting Rome, you can spend the night above Fendi's flagship boutique, in the Fendi Private Suites. Featuring seven elegant suites, all accommodations meld chic and creative design with Italian elegance and innovation, plus Fendi-infused touches. Set within the former palace of the Boncompagni Ludovisi Princely family, guests can dine at Zuma, situated on the rooftop, then shop at the store below (or vice versa). Read more about the Fendi Suites from our sister publication, Luxury Travel Advisor, written by Sharri Whiting De Masi.

What can we say about the Fendi Private Suites, other than to emphasize that couture is couture and style is style. Living over a store has never been so sumptuous. Enter through the silvery elevator doors and come out to find Fendi’s innovative design translated into sleek leather sofas, floor-to-ceiling windows and signature room dividers made from woven metallic wire sandwiched between glass. Palazzo Fendi, at Via della Fontanella di Borghese 48, is right at the end of Via Condotti, Rome’s famous shopping street. Continue reading below.

Lounge at the Fendi Luxury Suites

The largest of the seven suites, all of which are located on the third floor, is the Corner Suite No. 7. Six windows flood the 650-square-foot suite with light. Wine-velvet chairs and a colorful Fendi fur-wall mosaic provide contrast to the neutral velvets and taupe leather used throughout the suite. Levanto marble lines the walls of the bathrooms in the suites, with distinctive chocolate and cream swirls. There is a deep tub and a double shower. Note: There are bathtubs in five of the seven suites, along with separate showers.

Suites 4 and 5 have adjacent doors and, though separate, can be taken together for a group stay. Suite 4 is about 550 square feet, with two tall windows overlooking Via Tomacelli. The wide-screen TV swivels to face the bedroom or the living room and there is a walk-in wardrobe.

We also visited Palazzo Suite 2, which is 550 square feet and overlooks a small piazza. There are two large windows to bring in the Roman light. This suite can connect with Palazzo Suite 1, which looks out toward the skyline above the Spanish Steps.

We loved Fendi’s use of iPads in the suites to display clever apps for navigating Rome and providing hotel info to guests, who are also offered private tours of Fendi’s amazing new flagship store. Karl Lagerfeld photos of Rome decorate the walls in every suite, providing inspiration for the visit downstairs to see his couture collection for the design house.

The hip Zuma Ristorante shares the Palazzo Fendi, offering hotel guests breakfast, as well as contemporary Japanese cuisine at lunch and dinner. The rooftop terrace at Zuma is a favorite spot for sunset cocktails.

Did You Know? Buckland Manor

By: Five Star Alliance

Buckland Manor, was first mentioned in 600 AD, when the land was owned by the Abbey of Gloucester. The village of Buckland is thought to have the oldest rectory in England, which stands next to the Manor, with an impressive timbered hall that dates from the 15th Century. John Wesley preached in the church of St. Michael, the east window of which contains 15th Century glass, judged by some to be the nicest in the Cotswolds and reputed to have come from Hailes Abbey at the Dissolution. William Morris attended church services here when he came to Buckland in the 19th Century and was so impressed by the glass that he personally paid for its releading.

Did You Know? Alisal Guest Ranch

By: Five Star Alliance

Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort is nestled in the Santa Ynez Valley bound by a river on the northeast and a coastal mountain range on the southwest. The range barricades the coastal flow, producing warmer valley days and cooler valley nights. The adjacent river and seasonal streams that cross this land abound with annual runs of 10-pound steelhead trout. The rolling hills are dotted with valley oaks and coast live oaks, many of which will live up to 300 years. The verdant glens and riverbanks, shadowed by the mountain backdrop, support healthy groves of western sycamores. Deer graze cautiously, fearing mountain lions, bears, and coyotes. Original inhabitants used this land for hunting and for gathering acorns and, most recently, for raising livestock.

Did You Know? Barnsley Gardens Resort

By: Five Star Alliance

Behind Barnsley Resort's storybook setting is a true story filled with as many twists and turns as a work of fiction. The original manor, called Woodlands, was an estate built by a man—Godfrey Barnsley—for the love of his life, his wife Julia. Godfrey Barnsley began construction on his Italianate villa in the 1840's in the north Georgia foothills, on land that had once been inhabited by the Cherokee Indians. Both the home and its elaborate gardens were inspired by the work of Andrew Jackson Downing, a pioneering landscape designer and proponent of Italianate and gothic revival architecture. Julia never saw the completed home, as she fell ill and passed away. Today, Barnsley's stunning estate is an award-winning destination resort.
