Did You Know? Tiara Chateau Hotel Mont Royal Chantilly

December 14, 2014
By: Five Star Alliance

Back at the beginning of the last century, Fernand Halphen bought 12 acres of land close to Chantilly. The location was covered with ponds and meadows. His vision was to build a wonderful countryside residence on the highest wooded hillock. Halphen was a noted composer, in his time. He called upon architect Guillaume Tronchet and the best builders to construct a chateau that celebrated music on the inside and hunting, his other passion, on the outside. The chateau’s drawing rooms were dedicated to music, while the bas-reliefs on the facade conjured up the world of hunting. That chateau is now Tiara Chateau Hotel Mont Royal Chantilly.

New to Five Star Alliance: Hotel Molitor Paris

November 23, 2014
By: Five Star Alliance

Those who saw the award-winning movie Life of Pi (or read the book) will remember the legendary pool Piscine Molitor. The book and movie's hero was named Piscine Molitor, because his father wanted him to be as clean as the pool's water. Pi later shortened his name due to teasing at school. In addition to being featured in Life of Pi, Olympic gold medalist and future Tarzan actor, Johnny Weissmuller, was once a lifeguard at the pool. In a photoshoot held at the pool in 1946, the modern bikini was revealed for the first time. The pool also used to double as a skating rink in the winter. In 1989, the pool closed due to lack of funds, and the site became a magnet for graffiti artists.

Hotel Molitor Paris

After 25 years, the pool was recently reopened as part of the new Hotel Molitor Paris. With views of the summer pool, the 124 rooms at the 5-star MGallery hotel invite you to discover this wonderful location: enjoy relaxing in the spa, swim in the indoor pool, share a cocktail on the rooftop or savor the menu dreamt up by 2 generations of Meilleurs Ouvriers de France. Relax: you are at the Molitor.

Hotel Prince de Galles

was built in 1928 and was inspired by the style of the Decorative Arts exhibition of 1925. With a classical yet modern frontage and a magnificent patio in mosaic, the hotel Prince de Galles owes its name to its original aim: to welcome to Paris during his annual stays, the Prince of Wales, future Edward VIII, son of the king of England George V. Other famous guests include Winston Churchill, Lord Chamberlain, Marlene Dietrich, Elvis Presley, Lana Turner, and Gina Lollobrigida. Composer Frederic Chopin lived in the building that was the precursor to the hotel.

Did You Know? Ritz Paris

August 8, 2014
By: Five Star Alliance

Ritz Paris
In the early '30s, fashion icon Coco Chanel moved into the Hotel Ritz Paris. She not only brought her luggage, she also brought her own furniture, including a beige suite settee and a chinoiserie folding screen. The suite where she lived for more than 35 years still exists. The 1,670-square-foot Coco Chanel Suite has two bedrooms and a living room and features Coromandel lacquers, Chinese furniture, baroque mirrors, and over-sized sofas with quilting created by Chanel.

But Madame Coco wasn't the only celebrity of the time to call the hotel home. Ernest Hemingway also lived there, and one of the bars is fittingly named in his honor.

The hotel is currently closed for extensive renovations, but is expected to re-open in late 2014 or early 2015.
