September 10, 2015| By:K. Clare Johnson

The Hay-Adams HotelSurrounded by the White House, Lafayette Square, Lafayette Park and St. John's Church, The Hay-Adams, a historic Washington, DC hotel, is just moments away from some of the most significant destinations and famous monuments in America.

Originally designed and built as a residential hotel in the 1920s, today this boutique hotel in downtown Washinngton, DC has the distinct presence of a private mansion where guests can retreat.

As befitting its historic status, The Hay-Adams Author Series recreates a grand literary tradition established by John Hay and Henry Adams in the late 1800s. At the time, their homes were the center of Washington's intellectual and social gatherings, featuring such notable authors as Mark Twain, Edith Wharton, and Henry James. Reinvented in 2005, the event hosts distinguished authors to celebrate their work and share a drink, a meal, and conversation. The Hay-Adams Hotel

Authors that have been honored include David McCullough, Alice McDermott, Joyce Carol Oates, Toni Morrison, Isabel Allende, John Grisham, Maya Angelou, and Patricia O'Toole.

The next event is planned for early 2016, so literary fans should plan their visit to DC accordingly.
