Did You Know? Kulm Hotel St Moritz

In 1864, Kulm Hotel St Moritz was a popular summer resort with British guests. Determined to make the resort a year-round destination,  founder and hotel pioneer Johannes Badrutt made a daring bet with his guests. Extolling the virtues of sunny, pleasant winter days, Badrutt promised his guests that they would enjoy being on his terrace in their shirtsleeves during this period. Badrutt offered his doubtful guests free lodging if they didn't enjoy the winter. Amazingly, Badrutt won the bet. The British guests were so happy many of them stayed until Springtime, even going home with a suntan.
