Your Questions Answered: Understanding a Hotel’s Cancellation Policy

Question: We would like to stay at the Chateau De La Chevre d'Or in France, but before we make our reservation we’d like to know its cancellation policy. It states ‘CXL by 7 days prior to arrival – fee 1 night CXL incurs 61 Eur fee-until 7 days.

Answer: The cancellation policies can sometimes be a little bit difficult to decipher. This hotel’s cancellation policy means that if you cancel your reservation more than 7 days prior to arrival, you will be charged a 61 Euro cancellation fee. If you cancel your reservation within 7 days prior to arrival, you will be charged 1 night's rate plus tax as penalty. To clarify, regardless of how far in advance you cancel your reservation, you would always be charged a 61 Euro fee for cancelling, and for cancelations within 7 days of your arrival date, you would be charged 1 night’s rate plus tax as a penalty.
