Rayavadee
Krabi, Thailand
Present-day Krabi is one of Thailand's oldest inhabited areas dating back to prehistoric times. Archeological excavations in the region have unearthed human artifacts dating to between 27,000 and 37,000 years ago. The human remains excavated from Tum Moh Kiew are the oldest remains ever discovered in the Southeast Asia archipelago while the cave paintings of Tum Pi Hua Toh date back two to three thousand years. Since the beginning of recorded history, Krabi was already identified as one of the twelve satellite towns of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Kingdom. It did not gain its own separate identity until the beginning of the modern Rattanakosin Period when the port of Phuket was attacked and razed by Burmese invaders. Krabi was subsequently established as a secondary port under the name Pakasai County. In the year 1872, King Chulalongkorn (Rama 5) decreed that the county would attain city status and thereon be known as Krabi. There are many competing beliefs as to why the name krabi (sword) was chosen. Some believe it came from the word Pakasai, also meaning "sword", while others believe krabi also meant "monkey", the symbol of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Kingdom. Still others believe the moniker originates farther back in the Mehru language. Though there will probably never be a consensus on the subject, the sword still remains the provincial symbol to this day. Though the beaches, islands, and coastal ambience are undeniable highlights of any visit to Krabi, the provincial inland areas provide a multitude of natural attractions - mountains, forests, and waterfalls - waiting to be discovered. The private ground transportation is provided by our resort to any destination within the province.
