Did You Know? The Westin Miyako Hotel Kyoto

January 21, 2015| By:Five Star Alliance

The Westin Miyako Hotel Kyoto's three distinct on-site Japanese-style gardens soothe and refresh the mind with the tranquil sound of waterfalls. Both the Aoi-den and Kasui-en Japanese gardens have been designated as Kyoto City Cultural Assets.

Created in 1933 by the landscape architect Jihei Ogawa, Aoi-den Garden is highlighted by a three-level, 15-meter waterfall. Other carefully-chosen elements include clusters of maple trees and Japanese andromeda, and perfectly positioned stepping stones. The innovative design of Kasui-en Garden by Hakuyo Ogawa also incorporates water, which falls quietly over a large rock in the center against a backdrop of red pine trees. The newest garden—the Garden of Philosophy—is designed by the sculptor Bukichi Inoue and features cool, clear water flowing from the Eastern Mountains.
