The hotel features 2 frescoed rooms which have original XVI Century fresco painting in the room or in the bathroom. Many rooms have a stunning view of the golf courses, while others enjoy a relaxing view of the gardens or the courtyard.

Spa Treatments We'd Like to Try

By: K. Clare Johnson

So many spas, so little time!  With over 4,000 luxury hotels on the site, we have a lot of great spa spots.

Here are a few treatments offered at luxury hotel spas that have recently caught our eye:

-The Spa at Aria (pictured at right) in Las Vegas offers a Shio Salt room. Taking in salt through inhalation is thought to provide respiratory benefits. The illuminated wall of Shio salt bricks is complemented by salt lamps, vibration therapy, and radiant music.

-Intercontinental Thalosso Spa Bora Bora's fittingly named Deep Ocean Spa has glass-floored overwater bungalows enabling you to admire the marine life during your treatment. We'd go for the Deep Sea Hydromassage Bath with Chromatherapy.

-Nob Hill Spa at The Huntington Hotel offers a Cinnamon Ginger Escape.  An exfoliating spiced marmalade scrub with ground nutmeg is followed by an energizing massage using smooth pebbles wrapped in aromatic spice bags soaked in warm oil.

-Hotel Hershey, fittingly, offers a Whipped Cocoa bath,  Chocolate Bean Polish and a Chocolate Fondue wrap in their Chocolate Spa. We'll take all three!

-A  visit to Calistoga isn't complete without a stop at a winery and at the hot springs. After you've visited both,  Napa Valley's Solage Calistoga (pictured at left) has a three-part Mudslide Experience that involves a customized mud body wrap, a relaxing soak in geo-thermal mineral water from their own spring, and then zoning out in a state-of-the-art sound/vibration chair.

-Prague's Hotel Augustine has a St. Thomas Beer Body Ritual. Created using a secret recipe from the Augustinian order of Monks.  It starts with an exfoliation using ground organic beer hops and St. Thomas dark beer, and then finished with a full-body massage.

-Hotel Il Salviatino (pictured at top) offers an an Antixodant Wine Gel Peel. It's a body scrub using red wine gel and exfoliating seeds, followed up by a therapist-supervised aromatic vapor experience and a highly moisturizing massage.

Did You Know? Inn and Spa at Loretto

By: Five Star Alliance

The Inn and Spa at Loretto sits at the end of the historical Old Santa Fe Trail. Built on the site of the Sister's of Inn and Spa at LorettoLoretto girls' school, the Inn shares its grounds with the famed Loretto Chapel. The chapel is home to the spiral staircase known as the Miraculous Staircase. Why is it a miracle? Because no one knows who built it, or how they built it.

When the Loretto Chapel was completed in 1878, there was no way to reach the choir loft. The sisters consulted carpenters, but the craftsmen agreed that the only solution was a ladder. Since the chapel is small, the ladder would take up too much space.

Legend has it that the Sisters of the Chapel made a novena to St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters. On the ninth day of prayer, a man appeared looking for work. He was hired, completed the circular staircase, and then disappeared. The Sisters searched fruitlessly for the carpenter. Unable to find him, some concluded that the man was St. Joseph himself, having come in answer to the sisters' prayers.

In addition to the mystery of who built it, the staircase is a construction mystery as well. The stunning staircase has two 360 degree turns and no visible means of support. Also, it is said that the staircase was built without any nails.

It's a mystery.
