The Rubens at the Palace
When it comes to exceptional family facilities and a location in the heart of London's main tourist attractions, it's hard to beat The Rubens at the Palace located in Victoria, neighbouring London’s most prestigious address, Buckingham Palace. The hotel is within easy walking distance of many popular London sites including Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Downing Street, the London Aquarium, and the London Eye as well as the leafy green open spaces of the Royal Parks - Hyde Park, Green Park and St James’s Park.

The Rubens offers a number of extra special touches that ensure every family is kept entertained and well looked after. Children are made to feel like mini VIP's with access to their own Kids Concierge also known as the Director of Fun and Adventure, John Goncalves. John is fully abreast on London’s hottest openings and attractions and will happily offer advice to help each family make the most out of their trip to the capital. Many of the bedrooms offer views over the Royal Mews and the Director of Fun & Adventure will talk each child through traditional royal ceremony, such as the changing of the guard, and explain exactly what is happening and why. John has years of experience in keeping the most demanding of children amused both in and out of the hotel leaving parents to relax and enjoy their stay.

The Rubens is well known for its outstanding afternoon tea and youngsters are catered for with a Prince and Princess version. Treats include bite-size sandwiches, freshly baked scones, pastries and a choice of milkshakes, hot chocolate, tea or a soft drink. There is also a special kids menu including tasty “mocktails”. Children can also enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the hotel including a trip to the kitchen, where the Pastry Chef will help the kids decorate their own cupcakes. The Rubens at the Palace

Hotel Monteleone Aims to Break Records

August 15, 2014

Hotel Monteleone
Hotel Monteleone
, the quintessential New Orleans hotel, is looking to make history in a whole different way. Fittingly, the piece will be made out of Mardi Gras beads, bottle caps, and wine corks. It will depict Life in the French Quarter. Over the next year, Wanger will be traveling with the piece to schools and community centers statewide to work with volunteers on placing more than four million Mardi Gras beads on the art work. The piece will return to the Hotel Monteleone in summer 2015.

The massive art piece titled “Life in the French Quarter” is the latest project of local bead artist Stephan Wanger’s Bead Town initiative. The inspiration behind “Life in the French Quarter” is to translate everything that makes New Orleans great into art. Wanger’s vision of the piece features a background of iconic New Orleans scenery and a second line of famous local movers and shakers from the past and present including Lena and Louis Prima, Robin Barnes, Tennessee Williams and many more. The free standing 16-panel plywood canvas measures 96 feet wide by 8 feet tall and will be made entirely out of Mardi Gras Beads along with bottle caps and wine corks. Wanger started to prep the canvas by sketching out his vision for the piece in July 2014 and he projects it will take a year to add over four million Mardi Gras beads to complete the project by August 2015.

Did You Know? Ritz Paris

August 8, 2014
By: Five Star Alliance

Ritz Paris
In the early '30s, fashion icon Coco Chanel moved into the Hotel Ritz Paris. She not only brought her luggage, she also brought her own furniture, including a beige suite settee and a chinoiserie folding screen. The suite where she lived for more than 35 years still exists. The 1,670-square-foot Coco Chanel Suite has two bedrooms and a living room and features Coromandel lacquers, Chinese furniture, baroque mirrors, and over-sized sofas with quilting created by Chanel.

But Madame Coco wasn't the only celebrity of the time to call the hotel home. Ernest Hemingway also lived there, and one of the bars is fittingly named in his honor.

The hotel is currently closed for extensive renovations, but is expected to re-open in late 2014 or early 2015.
