Did You Know? The Pierre Hotel New York

By: Five Star Alliance

The Pierre Hotel New York opened in 1930 at a prime site at the corner of Fifth Avenue at 61st Street, commanding unrestricted views of Central Park. Many consider the signature room of this iconic hotel to be the rotunda. The Rotunda's famous tromp l'oeil murals were created in 1967 by American artist Edward Melcarth (1914 -1973). It was his intention to bring the style and spirit of the Renaissance paintings into the present.

In the mural scenes, classic mythological figures like Neptune and Venus are intermingled with a woman with young children who resembles Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, as well as a man in a Nehru jacket, a clothing style popular in the 1960s. Other mythological figures, such as the River Gods and Minerva, share space with a young Adam & Eve (Adam was posed for by actor Erik Estrada in his younger days) and the painter's cat, Sasha. Several of the figures were modeled on people from New York society and some of the artist's patrons and benefactors. Melcarth also sculpted the male and female heads above the entrances to The Rotunda and the restaurant.

By: Five Star Alliance

Hotel Les Ottomans

On the banks of the Bosphorus, Istanbul's active and scenic waterway, Hotel Les Ottomans resides in what was once a pasha's 18th-century mansion. Muhsinzade Mehmet Pasha Mansion, the current site of Hotel Les Ottomans, was one of the most prestigious mansions of its time. The premises were built over an area of 4527 square meters on the ruins dating from the era of Ahmed III. It also has an elegant fountain and a garden complex, which are deemed one of the most beautiful examples of Ottoman garden and water architecture. A meticulous, extravagant restoration of the stately home pays lavish tribute to Istanbul's Baroque revival.

Did You Know? Hotel Crillon le Brave

By: Five Star Alliance

Hotel Crillon le Brave
Hotel Crillon le Brave
calls itself a "village hotel." The many buildings which make
up the hotel date back to the 17th and 18th centuries although the village traces its
history to the Roman era two thousand years ago. Like in many Provencal hill villages,
each new generation constructed its homes on the ruins of its ancestors so that the
buildings that exist today have foundations and cellars that date back hundreds of years.

Hotel Crillon le Brave

Most of the main eight buildings that make up the hotel today were once family dwellings
but some had other uses as well. In most cases, the hotel has kept the names of the
previous inhabitants to help retain its connection to the village, its people, and its historic roots.
